The book is also a resource material for healthcare students and health workers in the Philippines. The book is divided into seven chapters that discuss the foundational concepts in healthcare and occupational therapy practice in the Philippines. Chapter 1 gives an overview of the factors that have shaped the Filipino and their country as well as developments in education, the economy, and the political and administrative structure of the government that affect the delivery of health programs for the people. This is followed by an exposition of aspects of the Filipino personality and family. Chapters 2 and 3 discuss concepts of health, illness, and disability and reactions and coping strategies of persons with health and disability problems. Together with this is a focus on Filipinos. Chapter 4 is on principles and concepts of occupational therapy. There is a brief passage on the historical development of occupational therapy in the Philippines. Chapter 5 is on principles related to occupational therapists as therapeutic agents including the occupational therapy process. Chapter 6 concentrates on the importance of and issues around collaborative work. Chapter 7 covers in more detail the context of occupational therapy practice in the Philippines, foremost are relevant pieces of legislation in health, social welfare and development, education, and labor and employment that impact on practice.
